His book credits include Sparks [1976]; Grace [1977]; and In Transit [1985], all of which have poems included in this volume. Twice, Michael Harris has been a prize-winner in the CBC Literary Competitions for “Turning Out the Light” in 1985 and “Spring Descending” in 1989, both of which are included in this edition. Veiled Countries/Lives [1984], his translation of the complete poetic works of Marie-Claire Blais, was a finalist for the John Glasco Translation Prize. The publication by VLB Editeur of a bilingual edition of Miss Emily et la Mort [1984] by Michael Harris was a Canadian breakthrough. For the very first time, a francophone publisher presented a book by an English Quebec poet.

  1. Please explain this site more clearly. Is The Metropolis a place in Montreal where musicians and writers get to enjoy a venue? What is Michael Harris’s part in this?

I am an old Visual Art student who once lived in Montreal, and knew Michael when he taught at Dawson.

    Many thanks for your time,

    Shirley MacKenzie
