Karmel & Xabier Iriondo | Gianni Mimmo | Cristiano Calcagnile’s Nibiru Ensemble | Airchamber 3+4 | Claudio Fasoli & Mario Zara | Pierfrancesco Mucari | Angelo Contini & Federico Cumar | Francesco Cusa & Shirin Demma | NovoTono | ON WAR | Amirani Records

Asked by amirani records, many musicians, each one with their own project, are here involved in the conceptual investigation of the confictual relationship among human beings. All tracks are original compositions for this goal. Amirani’s intent is to moove or provoke artists to compose and perform around social issues. Relationships and communication with all muscians involved in this adventure has been excellent and Amirani is thinking about a second volume for the next year. Each artist/composer/performer has been requested to explain his piece, to introduce his proceeding, to describe his way to approach to concept “War”. So in the booklet one can find an explanation for each piece directly from the musician. To extend the communication, to enhance the perspective, to create more possibilities of relations each piece has been completed with a marvellous photo by Elda Papa. So be confident to find here a nice, fresh, intense Amirani style work. Continue reading

EAR & NOW | Eclipse | Amirani Records

Eclipse is a wind, opening and moving the pages of a book, hidden to our attention because too important, too inexorable. It’s a music that soon leaves its first aesthetical dimension to begin to dig up, as a drop, as a bedded narration,a choir. A same story we pass through, we listen as told in different places, with different shadings, from different sides. As if the possibility to come across a time, through scenes that freeze themselves in a sort of tableau vivant, animated by dense symbols. Great and overwhelming, ritual and evocative, the Eclpise still retains the power of admonition, of calling to re-consider our single perspectives as parts of a pulsing complexity, we can’t properly describe.

EAR&NOW delivers a perfected work where it is easier to feel the harshness of lives moving there, like sharpnesses of a tide, darkened by a lunar Eclipse. Eclipse is each one’s other side. Continue reading

Starting from an extremely accurate recording of a performance by Gianni Mimmo, Angelo Contini and Xabier Iriondo in an italian ancient church and then working on the music as on a real storyboard, here is a thrilling, touching, exciting DVD about the tragically epic adventure of the Russian nuclear submarine, realized in an intense relationship between music and images. Gianni Mimmo | Xabier Iriondo | Your Very Eyes | Amirani Records

Performance recorded early on a sunny dawn, June the 24th, 2007, in an ancient 10th century cave-church in a magic stone town named Matera, South of Italy. The church is named Santa Lucia alle Malve. Summer solstice is a holy moment in so many and various traditions. We chose there because of the sound of these alveolar stones. Not only we had beautiful reverbes and resonant echoes but the sound seemed to go into the stones themselves.

The Shipwreck Bag Show | KC | Long Song Records

Only one year has passed since the previous album, and the two survivors Xabier Iriondo / Roberto Bertacchini are already ready with a new collection of songs, thanks to their fresh creativity. The duo in this third album moves away from the ‘avant-rock experimental miniCD debut, pumping the vein of early blues and bundle it into eleven tracks in the form of song. “KC” is an album consisting of songs, because Iriondo first acts as a guitarist with a lot of riffs and distortion, and Bertacchini straighten a bit the rhythm of his drumming letting the voice to be the element of their a-rhythmic and drunk sound. To seal the magnificent proof there are his lyrics, visionaries and grotesque. Continue reading

The Shipwreck Bag Show | Il Tempo … Tra Le Nostre Mani, Scoppia | Long Song Records

Xabier Iriondo and Roberto Bertacchini are together again to continue the work started with the mini-cd of the same name which closed the wallaceMailSeries. Two years to forge a sound that has become much more than the sum of two styles, whose personality has become trademark. Shipwreck The Bag Show is a group, a band playing live and this album offers twelve tracks that are real songs. Without forgetting the sound research carried out over the years, the duo is dedicated to singing and playing blues songs obviously drunk and crooked, obviously cripple blues, dirty, primitive and evocative. God (or who for him) makes them … Continue reading

Simone Massaron feat. Carla Bozulich | Dandelions On Fire | Long Song Records

I couldn’t help but feel that the material presented by Massaron’s Dandelions on Fire would be at home on any of the Tom Waits’ albums from the past decade. I couldn’t find any direct correlation from Massaron to Waits through background digging, and that’s what makes this album even better. It bears the almost unmistakable variances of an extremely seasoned veteran, yet makes no apologies when it comes to claiming its individuality. This is one uniquely diverse collection that’s sure to satiate any fan of Mr. Waits or Nels Cline, but would likely also be in frequent rotation of any dedicated Carla Bozulich fan. — songfrontiers Continue reading
