Mirio Cosottini graduated from Florences Academy of Music in 1992 and subsequently studied under P. Thibaud, Luca Marzana and Emanuele Antoniucci. In 1999, he received his degree in Philosophy at the University of Florence. He is one of the founding members of Timet, a 10-year collaboration that led to his contribution as a performer and composer on several of the group’s highly original works. Since that time, he has dwelved further into composition, musical analysis and improvisation, as can be seen from his musical contributions to the field of dance, theatre, poetry and cinema. In 2005 he founded with Alessio Pisani the GRIM (Musical Improvisation Research Group). Since 2005 teaches improvisation at the Conservatory of Padova, Italy. Continue reading →

ZLATKO KAUCIC has been known to take household items and turn them into percussive instruments incorporating them into his music, experimenting with the sound they make and the sharpness and clarity of their timbres. This is also a point made by one of his most memorable fans Jakob, a ten year old boy, who attended Zlatko’s concert in Nova Gorica and said loudly to his father in the middle of the show, “Look what Zlatko is playing, some funny home-made instrument.” Provocative, thoughtful, spellbinding, and always original and contemporary, Zlatko Kaucic’s compositions have inspired collective improvisations in his native Slovenia and abroad for over thirty years, celebrating this achievement with his 2009 recording 30th Anniversary Concerts. Thanks to Serravalle Scrivia municipality, it has also been included in the 2013 edition of Le Storie del Novecento national literary awards. The project is based on the idea that art and culture are not only a source of beauty and aesthetic pleasure, but they are also a way of life. M/W is a double-solo-CD by the two great Norwegian musicians Christian Winther (Guitar) and Christian Meaas Svendsen (double bass). Both spinning out of the creative environment around the Music Academy in Oslo the two musicians has been noticed in the world of improvised music from several of their other projects the last years, like ICH BIN N!NTENDO, Mopti, Mokey Plot, KNYST!, Karokh, Duplex, Mummu, Aksiom, Unbird and others, making them some of the busiest musicians in the scene. M/W is the debut as solo artists for both musicians. It is a result of years of experimenting and finding their own sound, and it really shows what they are capable of with their instruments. As Deafness Increases plays music in the gray area between composition and improvisation. Clear structural frameworks functions as a starting point for creating music where slow haunting soundscapes are alternated with rapid movements and semi-melodic passages. Through the use of flexible instrumental roles and extended techniques, the trio strives to create a sound that grows beyond it’s components. The self titled debut album was recorded during two days in Oslo spring 2013, and consists of one long composition and three shorter pieces. “Svalbard” was originally created by the trio to accompany a compilation of film clips made by an anonymous amateur at the arctic islands in the 1930s.
