William Hooker is an artistic whole, a vast circle of vision and execution. A body of uninterrupted work beginning in the mid-seventies defines him as one of the most important composers and players in jazz. As bandleader, Hooker has fielded ensembles in an incredibly diverse array of configurations. Each collaboration has brought a serious investigation of his compositional agenda and the science of the modern drum kit. In this limited edition double vinyl he is joined by two groups of great contemporary jazz musicians in two sessions, which are entitled Bliss(east) and Bliss(west), marking their performances on East and West Coasts in 2007 and 2009. Keith recorded these poems in Santa Fe in 1990 for a cassette to accompany Lion’s Gate, Selected Poems 1963-1986. When Alien Kruse converted that cassette to compact disk from the cassette, he noticed two poems, “Teofilo Orozco” and “Snakeskin”, had beed dropped from the cassette, and had Keith rerecord them. Maria Kruse designed a CD insert, label and cover graphics. This 2CD edition was made available to family and friends. Vox is making both available to the public. Continue reading

Adam Caine is a guitarist, improvisor and composer. Adam fronts the Adam Caine Trio with Tom Blancarte and John Wagner and the Adam Caine Quartet with Nick Lyons, Adam Lane and John Wagner. Adam also plays in Johnny Butler’s Scurvy and Eric Eigner’s Mysterium. Adam grew up in Rochester, New York and studied music at the University of Rochester. Since 2000 he has lived in Brooklyn, New York and has played in New York City and throughout the United States. Adam has performed with Connie Crothers, Paul Smoker, Daniel Carter, Ken Filiano, Phil Haynes, Glen Branca, Haale, and the New York Soundpainting Ensemble. Adam’s 2005 CD, “PIPE,” received rave reviews in the Wire, Cadence, and All About Jazz. In 2008, Adam was awarded a grant from the Brooklyn Arts council for an improvised performance with visual artist Marjan Moghaddam. As a composer for video art, Adam’s music has been featured in over 20 international festivals since 2006. Continue reading

Dana Wilde of Troy, Maine, is at present an editor and columnist for the local daily newspaper. In previous lifetimes he served in China and South Africa as a Fulbright lecturer in American literature, taught literature and writing in Bulgaria, Maine and New York, managed a publisher of legal books and directories, played in small-time rock and roll bands, and coached college basketball, among a lot of other dog-eared occupations and divagations. His writings on nature, outer space and literature, some of which have won press and academic awards, have appeared widely over decades and many are now collected at The Mind Errant .
